Emerging Research Trends on Residents’ Quality of Life in the Context of Tourism Development

Through a systematic review of recent publications on residents’ quality life (QOL) in relation to tourism development (TD), this study surveys associated dynamics and emerging trends. Several patterns are observed: i) geographic areas interest have expanded from developed economies developing economies; ii) an array theories concepts been introduced or merged with classic frameworks; iii) subjective composite approaches dominated QOL measurement; iv) the direct indirect influences TD constitute main focus work. Future work can take several directions: establishing conceptual framework link tourists’ perspectives QOL; combining objective scales improve generalizability; employing longitudinal designs innovative methods offer insight into TD–QOL nexus; investigating QOL/well-being eudaimonic tradition accommodate diversified elements broader QOL.
